There are several interesting networks in Biomedical engineering in Sweden, which can be of interest to student wanting to learn more about ongoing research in the field and the medtech industry or find opportunities for thesis projects or future employment.

CMTF logotype

Many courses within the program engage students in projects where there is ongoing active research. The program council collaborate extensively with the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Physics (CMTF). CMTF connects academia, healthcare and industry within the field of biomedical engineering in Northern Sweden. Researchers at Umeå university and Luleå technical university perform interdisciplinary research that draws on principles of physics, math and engineering to understand and characterize physiological systems in health and disease. The centre is run in collaboration with the county councils in Norr- and Västerbotten as well as industry. MedTech4Health is a national strategic Innovation Programme within Medical Technology, which works as a catalyst for more medical technological ideas and solutions in healthcare, a more efficient healthcare sector and a strengthened medical technology industry. MedTech4Health has eight regional nodes in Sweden; CMTF represents Northern Sweden in the programme. MedTech4Health arranges events that are sometimes open to students, and their webpage can be a good place to find out about new innovations and ongoing R&D projects in biomedical engineering, both in academia and in start-up companies. The Swedish Society for Medical Engineering (MTF, "Medicinteknisk Förening") is a non-profit association for anyone active in the fields of medical physics, biomedical engineering and biophysics. You can also join as a student member. MTF is associated with the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science (EAMBES) and the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). Every year MTF arranges a conference in the field: MT days ("Medicinteknikdagarna"), as well as some post graduate courses. MTF is also responsible for certification of Medical engineers, which you can apply for once you have professional experience in the field.
